في بيئات شبكة WAN الملزمة، يكون حل النسخ الاحتياطي الوحيد لتوجيه الاتصال عند الطلب (DDR) المتوفر هو إستخدام شبكة ISDN، حيث أن التوصيل عبر المزامنة غير مدعوم.
كن على علم بأن التوصيل على اتصال ISDN يميل إلى إبقاء الاتصال نشطا لفترات طويلة جدا، إن لم يكن بشكل دائم. إذا كانت مصاريف شركة الهاتف (Telco) ل ISDN استنادا إلى وقت الاتصال وكان الارتباط التسلسلي الذي يتم تعقبه معطلا لفترة طويلة جدا، فقد يؤدي ذلك إلى فاتورة كبيرة جدا.
