The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety shined a light on the systemic weaknesses and deficiencies of Australia’s aged care sector.

A large-scale system reorientation is needed with technology and digitisation at the core. Digital transformation is critical to creating an aged care system that can be scaled to meet future needs and drive the connection and respect that is the motivating force of carers, the aim of providers, and the right of every user of the system.

A collaboration between Cisco and RMIT University, the Health Transformation Lab brings together the best health research and technology capability to create solutions for specific use cases in an aged care setting. This can accelerate the effectiveness and impact to address the Commission’s key recommendations, today. 

Transforming Aged Care Report

The Health Transformation Lab’s new report, Transforming Aged Care, responds directly to the recommendations made by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. It contends that the deep and systemic adoption of technology presents an opportunity to transform Australia’s aged care into a respectful, responsive and high-quality system.

A showcase of new frontiers in digital innovation can be experienced at our RMIT and Cisco “Sandbox”, a purpose-built, tech-enabled prototyping space to enable new models of multisector collaboration. This document highlights a selection of technology demonstrations from the Sandbox that brings together the best health research and technology capabilities to support elderly Australians.
