Installation Note for the Supervisor Engine 2T DRAM Memory
Product Number: MEM-SUP2T-4GBThis document provides the procedures for installing a second DRAM module on the Supervisor Engine 2T. This procedure is used to increase your Supervisor Engine 2T DRAM from 2 GB to 4 GB.
Required Tools
The following tools are required to remove and replace the DRAM module on the Supervisor Engine 2T:
•Antistatic mat or antistatic bag
•ESD wrist strap
•No. 2 Phillips screwdriver (may be needed to loosen the captive installation screws on the supervisor engine.)
Installing the DRAM Module
There are two DRAM module sockets located on the Supervisor Engine 2T CPU daughter card. (See Figure 1.) For a Supervisor Engine 2T with 2 GB of memory, only one of the two DRAM sockets contains a 2 GB DRAM DIMM. To increase the Supervisor Engine 2T DRAM memory to 4 GB, you must install a 2 GB DRAM module, supplied in the MEM-SUP2T-4GB upgrade kit, in the second DRAM socket.

To install a DRAM DIMM, follow these steps:
Step 1 Attach an ESD grounding strap between your wrist and bare metal on the chassis. If you are unsure of the correct ESD procedures, refer to the ESD precautions chapter in the Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine Guide at:
Step 2 Remove the supervisor engine from the chassis and place it on an antistatic work surface. If you are unfamiliar with the correct procedure for removing a supervisor engine from the chassis, refer to the Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine Guide at:
Step 3 Remove the new 2 GB DRAM module from its packaging and place it on an antistatic work surface.
Step 4 Locate the two DRAM module sockets on the CPU daughter card. (See Figure 1.)
Step 5 Without touching the DRAM module circuitry or the DRAM module edge connector, carefully position the DRAM module in front of the empty DRAM socket.
Step 6 Slide the DRAM module into the socket. Press firmly and equally on both the left and right ends of the DRAM module until the DRAM module snaps into place.
Step 7 Visually verify that both white retaining clips on the DRAM socket are engaged in the notches on the sides of the DRAM module.
Step 8 Reinstall the Supervisor Engine 2T in the chassis. If you are not familiar with the procedure for installing modules in a Catalyst 6500 series chassis, refer to the Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine Guide at:
