This document demonstrates how to apply access lists to dial interfaces with a RADIUS server. There are two possible methods:
Define the numbered access list on the router, then reference the numbered access list on the RADIUS server. Most Cisco IOS® Software Releases support this. For example, define the numbered access list on the router and reference them on the server.
Define the entire access list on the server. Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 or later is required for this per-user method. For example, define the access list on the RADIUS server (rather than on the NAS). When the call connects, the NAS authenticates the call with the RADIUS server. Along with any authentication information, the server returns the access list to the NAS which it then applies to the dial interface.
Note: For ISDN, you must use the per-user method and you must configure virtual profiles on the router. These are described for Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 in Configuring Virtual Profiles.
There are no specific requirements for this document.
The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions.
Cisco IOS Software Release 11.1 or later (define access lists on the router)
Cisco IOS Software Release 11.3 or later (define access lists on the server)
Cisco Secure ACS UNIX or Cisco Secure ACS for Windows 2.x or Livingston RADIUS or Merit RADIUS
The information presented in this document was created from devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If you are working in a live network, ensure that you understand the potential impact of any command before using it.

This procedure involves the configuration of the access list itself on the router. The RADIUS server is configured with the access list number that is applied. When the call authenticates, the RADIUS server returns the access list number to the NAS, which then applies the corresponding access list.
Follow the steps below:
In the User Settings, fill in the name and password(s).
In the Group Settings, check:
Attribute 6 - Framed
Attribute 7 - PPP
Attribute 11 - Filter-Id. In the area below, type 101.in
Note: Attribute 11 specifies that access list 101 is applied. Ensure that access-list 101 is configured on the router.
rtp-evergreen# ./ViewProfile -p 9900 -u chaprtr User Profile Information user = chaprtr{ profile_id = 51 profile_cycle = 1 radius=Cisco { check_items= { 2="chaprtr" } reply_attributes= { 6=2 7=1 11=101.in } } }
Note: Attribute 11 specifies that access-list 101 is applied. Ensure that access-list 101 is configured on the router.
chaprtr Password = chaprtr User-Service-Type = Framed-User, Framed-Protocol = PPP, Framed-Filter-Id = 101.in
Note: This specifies that access-list 101 is applied. Ensure that access-list 101 is configured on the router.

Note: Route statements do not have to be passed down from the server to the router; the dial user normally picks up the routes from the router. The presence of the route statements on the router depends on whether the routes are to be passed down from the server or picked up from the router. However, in this example, the access list and the route statements are passed down.
ip route 9.9.9.0 255.255.255.0 11.11.11.12 ip route 15.15.15.0 255.255.255.0 12.12.12.13
In this sample configuration, passing the routes down from the server is only for purposes of illustration.
