CSCwb61725 | Umbrella DDTS for new SSD Support |
A new solid-state drive (SSD) component has been introduced in Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 560 Series Routers. If a router with the new SSD is running a Cisco IOS XR Software release earlier than Release 7.6.1 and does not have the SMU installed, an error message may be displayed during SSD (field programmable device [FPD]) upgrade.
A new SSD has been introduced on Cisco NCS 560 Series Routers to address end of life (EOL) of the current SSD device model.
The console may generate following failure logs for command output of show hw-module fpd:
RP/0/RP0/CPU0:ios#show hw-module fpd

The CLI output of 255.255 for the SATA device reflects the defect described in this field notice.
The SSD details in the router can be determined with instructions provided in the How to Identify Affected Products section of this field notice.
Cisco recommends installing the appropriate SMU on Cisco NCS 560 Series Routers that are running any of the Cisco IOS XR Software releases listed in the following table. The fix is included in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.6.1.
Cisco IOS XR Software Release | SMU |
---|---|
7.0.2 | ncs560-sysadmin-7.0.2.CSCwb61725.tar |
7.1.2 | ncs560-sysadmin-7.1.2.CSCwb61725.tar |

7.5.2 | ncs560-sysadmin-7.5.2.CSCwb61725.tar |
The details of the SSD that is on the device can be determined using the following command:
host:0_RP0:/misc/disk1]$ smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep "Device Model"
Cisco recommends installing the appropriate SMU or upgrading to Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.6.1 if the output of the command is SRM24064BTIM2A71C, as shown in the following example:
[host:0_RP0:~]$ smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep "Device Model"
Device Model: SRM24064BTIM2A71C
