CSCwk02203 | NCS560: To disable FPD upgrade for (A900-PWR1200-A) PSU |
Some A900-PWR1200-A power supply units on Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 560 Series Routers may become unresponsive after a Field Programmable Device (FPD) upgrade to Cisco IOS XR Software releases 7.7.21, 7.8.2, 7.10.1, or 24.1.1.
The root cause of this issue is a power supply FPD upgrade enablement to Cisco IOS XR releases 7.7.21, 7.8.2, 7.10.1, or 24.1.1.
After upgrading Cisco NCS 560 Routers to Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.7.21, 7.8.2, 7.10.1, or 24.1.1, or after online insertion and removal (OIR), output for the # show hw-module fpd command for the power supply may show the FPD status NEED UPGD, as shown in the following example:
# show hw-module fpd
Location Card type HWver FPD device ATR Status Running Programd
0/PM1 A900-PWR1200-A 0.1 DCA-PriMCU NEED UPGD 0.00 0.00
If the command output shows 0.00 for Running and Programd, the device is affected by this vulnerability.
If the FPD upgrade is executed further from this stage, the power module will fail and show a FAILED status for the # show platform command, as shown in the following example:
# show platform
Node Type State Config state
0/PM1/CPU0 A900-PWR1200-A FAILED NSHUT
Do not attempt FPD upgrade for power supply units with the A900-PWR1200-A product ID (PID).
Cisco recommends disregarding the NEED UPGD output for the #show hw-module fpd command on the affected Cisco IOS XR releases that are mentioned in this field notice.
The routers can be upgraded to Cisco IOS XR Release 24.2.1 or later, which have incorporated the fix for this issue.
For A900-PWR1200-A power supply modules that have already failed, a Return Material Authorization (RMA) can be initiated.
