Cisco Integrated Management Controllers (IMCs) on Cisco UCS-B M5, Cisco UCS-B M6, and Cisco UCS-X M6 Servers may encounter an out-of-memory condition when they are running older firmware releases. While in an impacted state, the server may be unmanageable from Intersight, and the server state shown in Intersight may be inaccurate.
This issue applies only to Cisco UCS-B M5 Series, Cisco UCS-B M6 Series, and Cisco UCS-X M6 Series Blade Servers in Intersight Managed Mode (IMM) that are running affected firmware releases.
In IMM, many management tasks for Cisco UCS-B M5, Cisco UCS-B M6, and Cisco UCS-X M6 Blade Servers are processed directly from Intersight services to the Device Connector (DC) that is running on the Cisco IMC. This includes blade discovery, profile association, and firmware upgrades. Server states and alarms are also communicated directly from the DC to Intersight services. The issues referenced in this field notice are related to interruptions of the DC.
Due to Cisco IMCs possibly entering an out-of-memory condition, the Intersight DC of an affected server may become disconnected. When disconnected, any Intersight workflow that requires connectivity to the DC will fail, including:
The errors include the following:
Solution
Cisco suggests upgrading to a server firmware bundle that includes a fix to the respective software defects to eliminate these known out-of-memory conditions, as shown in the following table. For Cisco UCS-B and Cisco UCS-X Servers, see the Server Firmware Upgrade task in Intersight for the latest suggested release.

Cisco UCS-X Blade Server software can be downloaded from an Intersight Appliance Account. To create an Intersight Appliance Account, follow the steps in the Cisco Intersight Appliance Getting Started Guide.
Servers that are susceptible to this issue can be identified by their running blade bundle or Cisco IMC version. For affected blade Host Service Utility (HSU) bundle or Cisco IMC releases, see the table in the Workaround/Solution section of this field notice. There are two ways to review impacted servers:
For Intersight Essentials and Advantage Customers
Intersight Essentials and Advantage Customers will be automatically alerted for servers that are running an affected release. To access details, complete the following steps:
