CSCwh42627 | FPR4k-SSD800 for FPR4125 reporting 400G |
Some spare solid state drive (SSD) modules that are used in the Cisco FPR4125 and Cisco FPR4145 security appliances were formatted to 400GB instead of 800GB.
Some spare SSD modules that shipped from approximately June 2019 through November 2023 might be incorrectly formatted to 400GB instead of the specified 800GB. As a result, the SSD storage capacity for log and event files is reduced by 50 percent when they are used in Cisco Firepower 4100 Series security appliances. Affected SSD units are not field upgradable and cannot be reformatted to the correct storage capacity.
Note: This issue does not affect SSD modules that were installed in Cisco FPR4125 and Cisco FPR4145 security platforms at the time of order. Only individually boxed spare 800GB SSD modules (FPR4K-SSD800=) are affected.
Affected SSD modules will store approximately 50 percent of the specified log and event files due to the reduced storage capacity.
Cisco recommends replacing affected spare SSD modules.
For information about requesting a replacement, see the Upgrade Program Information section of this field notice.
To determine the serial number and formatted capacity of the SSD module installed in a Cisco Firepower 4100 Series security appliance, execute the following Cisco Firepower eXtensible Operating System (FXOS) commands:
firepower-chassis# scope chassis 1 firepower-chassis /chassis# scope server1 firepower-chassis /chassis/server#show inventory storage Local Disk 1: Vendor: INTEL Model: SSDSC2BX80 Serial: BTHC7393066M800NGN HW Rev: 0 Operability: Operable Presence: Equipped Size (MB): 400000 (Note: Correct SSD module density is 800000) Drive State: Online Power State: Active Link Speed: 6 Gbps Device Type: SSD
The serial number of the spare SSD module can also be found on the sales order, the SSD module packaging, and on the SSD module serial number label.
To determine if a serial number is affected, see the Serial Number Validation section of this field notice
