CSCwf87782 | Cisco.com communication from DNAC should use ASD4.0 instead ASD3.0 Service API. |
The software image management (SWIM) feature in affected releases of Cisco DNA Center will no longer download software images and image metadata from Cisco.com after April 26, 2024. Existing images in the Cisco DNA Center Image Repository can still be pushed to devices, and new images can still be added to the repository through the manual import method. However, after April 26, 2024, affected versions of Cisco DNA Center will fail to establish a connection to Cisco.com and image metadata download will be disabled.
Cisco DNA Center SWIM uses the Cisco Automatic Software Distribution (ASD) service to access metadata and download software images for devices. Access to the ASD service is required for downloading image metadata, which enables image download from Cisco.com to the Image Repository. The ASD service operates through a public-facing, version-controlled API. Affected releases of Cisco DNA Center software only support ASD API Version 3 (v3), which has reached End of Life (EoL) and has been replaced by ASD API Version 4 (v4). Cisco DNA Center releases 2.2.3.6 and later support ASD API v4.
Because ASD API v3 is no longer supported, affected releases of Cisco DNA Center may experience problems connecting to Cisco.com for SWIM image download. After April 26, 2024, ASD API v3 access will be discontinued and Cisco DNA Center connections to ASD API v3 will cease to work.
On the Cisco DNA Center Design > Image Repository page, image download and image metadata download from Cisco.com will not work. Previously downloaded images and manually imported images will remain unchanged in the Image Repository, but Cisco DNA Center will not automatically download new images. The show tasks window will show an error for each attempt to contact Cisco.com to download images.
Cisco recommends upgrading to a recent Cisco DNA Center Software Suggested Release that supports ASD API v4. Cisco DNA Center releases 2.2.3.6 and later support ASD API v4 and thus support API-compatible SWIM connections to Cisco.com. For assistance selecting a Suggested Release, consult the Cisco DNA Center Compatibility Matrix.
If a software upgrade is not possible before April 26, 2024, a workaround option is to download images from Cisco.com using a local computer and then import the images into the Cisco DNA Center Image Repository using the manual import process. For more information on the manual import process, see the Import a Software Image section of the Cisco DNA Center User Guide.
To find the current software release through the Cisco DNA Center GUI, do the following steps:
The product version number will appear in the window under Cisco DNA Center, as in the following example:
Version | Description | Section | Date |
1.0 | Initial Release | — | 2023-AUG-10 |
