Problem Description

The Web User Interface (WebUI) of Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) Manager releases listed in the Products Affected section might not function after the deprecation of Adobe Flash on 2020-12-31.

Background

In accordance with Adobe’s End-of-Life announcement, Adobe plans to deprecate Flash-based content and will no longer distribute or support Flash software after 2020-12-31. In addition, third-party software updates from operating system vendors and/or browser vendors might also block Flash.

Even if Flash-based content works normally after 2020-12-31, the lack of Flash maintenance updates from Adobe introduces various levels of risk that administrators should evaluate.

This announcement impacts some older releases of Cisco UCS Manager that have a Java-based GUI and depend on Adobe Flash for some functionalities to work. Refer to the Workaround/Solution section for specific details on this product.

Problem Symptom

The WebUI of all UCS Manager releases for release trains earlier than 3.1(3a), which includes the 2.2(x) release train, are Java-based and might not be accessible on browser versions that will deprecate support for Flash.

Workaround/Solution

Cisco has migrated from Flash to HTML5 for the UCS Manager GUI. While Cisco will continue to provide applicable service and support such as critical security fixes via patch releases through the end-of-support dates for the impacted releases, Cisco does not plan to retrofit those releases with an HTML5-based WebUI.

Customers who might be impacted by this deprecation should consider these alternatives:

  • Upgrade to a UCS Manager release on the 3.1(3) or 3.2 trains, or to a later release that supports an HTML5-based GUI interface.
  • Use the CLI or XML API interface to control and configure the servers attached to the Fabric Interconnects.
  • Access vKVM through the XML API in case the WebUI is not available.
