There could be a possible router processor (RSP) bootup failure with no console logs after an IOFPGA upgrade followed by a reload or power-cycle on Network Convergence System 560 (NCS 560) routers with RSP4/RSP4E.
A module in NCS 560 routers is susceptible to an initialization error when an IOFPGA upgrade of RSP4/RSP4E is performed. This issue is exposed to the Cisco IOS® XR releases listed in the Workaround/Solution section.
During an IOFPGA upgrade of the RSP4/RSP4E, you might observe these symptoms:
Cisco recommends to install a Software Maintenance Upgrade (SMU) as per the table as a workaround for this issue before you upgrade the IOFPGA.
The instructions to upgrade the IOFPGA with Application Dependency Mapping (ADM) and other programmables are available for each release in the form of a SMU for upgrade.
After installation of the SMU and successful Field Programmable Device (FPD) upgrade you can confirm the activity completion with the sh hw-module fpd
command.
