ASR 920 AC Power Supplies (A920-PWR400-A) shipped between September 2015 and May 2016 are only compliant for usage in elevations up to 2000 meters.
Customers who have the impacted power supplies (see the How To Identify Affected Products section) and need to use the units at altitudes greater than 2000 meters need to raise a Return Material Authorization (RMA) for their current AC Power Supply (A920-PWR400-A).
Note that the ASR 920 AC Power Supplies (A920-PWR400-A) are not expected to fail as a result of this issue, though the power supplies do need to be replaced in order to be compliant with both federal and international regulations.
In June 2016, certification requirements were established specifically for power supply components used at altitudes greater than 2000 meters.
Cisco has made design changes to the power supply components in order to ensure compliance with these regulations.
All shipped power supplies are certified for altitude up to 2000 meters and no action is needed for use at these lower altitudes.
This is a design certification issue and there is not a symptom or failure expected while the unit is in use.
In order to ensure compliance, customers are not recommended to replace any ASR 920 AC Power Supplies planned for use in altitudes above 2000 meters.
Cisco recommends that customers who have the impacted power supplies (see the How To Identify Affected Products section) and plan to use the ASR 920 Power Supply (A920-PWR400-A) for altitudes above 2000 meters request a replacement through the normal RMA process.
Use the Serial Number Validation Tool in order to determine whether your ASR 920 Power Supply part number is impacted by this issue.
