CSCvf34445 | There were no defects filed with this field notice at the time of publication. |
The affected products received after 15 April 2015 report the "EQPT-DEGRADE" alarm when newly installed in the node with software releases 9.8.0.x, 9.8.1, 9.8.1.1, 9.8.1.2, 10.0.x, 10.1.0.1, 10.3.0, and 10.3.0.1.
However, for cards received before 15 April 2015 check the serial number with the Serial Number Validation Tool in the "How to Identify Affected Products" section.
The issue is caused by the software verification failure for a new version of an ASIC on Wire Speed Encryption (WSE) boards on the impacted hardware mentioned in the "Products Affected" section.
This problem does not impact traffic and does not require a Return Material Authorization (RMA) in order to replace hardware.
The newly installed WSE card in the node reports the "EQPT-DEGRADE" alarm.
Since this is a cosmetic problem that does not impact traffic, there is no workaround required and the alarm can be safely ignored.
This is not a hardware issue and an RMA is not required as the cards produced by Cisco henceforth have the new version of the particular ASIC. The issue will be fixed in software releases 9.8.1.3, 10.1.0.2, 10.3.0.2, 10.50, and all future releases. A software upgrade to one of these releases will resolve this issue.
See the Serial Number Validation Tool.
