After 497 days of uptime the switch may restart due to a software defect. This problem is intermittent and may not happen every time. If the switch is running SAN-OS 3.3(2), NX-OS 4.1(1b) or above software, the switch is not vulnerable to this issue.
In order to determine if your switch is at risk, enter theshow system uptime
command to identify how long the switch has been up.

This problem is resolved in SAN-OS 3.3(2) and NX-OS 4.1(1b).
The data field for the switch uptime has a maximum of 497 days before it will roll over to zero. If the process that handles the roll over takes more than ten seconds, the switch will restart.
The switch may restart due to a failure of the system to respond quickly enough when the uptime counter reaches 497 days.
By scheduling a planned restart of the switch or upgrading to either SAN-OS 3.3(2) or NX-OS 4.1(1b) it is possible to avoid this issue. In addition, if a switch was upgraded to any prior version of SAN OS, the system uptime would have been reset to zero.
