Cisco Systems
® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco
® 5x20S Broadband Processing Engine for the Cisco uBR10012 Universal Broadband Router. The last day to order the Cisco 5x20S Broadband Processing Engine is September 1, 2005. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until September 1, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco 5x20S Broadband Processing Engine. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco 5x20U Broadband Processing Engine-a newer model that enhances functionality of the Cisco 5x20S to include:
• Support for 6 MHz and 8 MHz downstream channel widths
Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating from the Cisco 5x20S to the Cisco 5x20U.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS
The recommended replacement for the Cisco 5x20S is the Cisco 5x20U. The Cisco 5x20U evolves the Cisco 5x20S, utilizing newer technology in the RF front end, while sharing the same architecture. This allows the Cisco 5x20U to support an extended upstream frequency range, as well as 8 MHz downstream channelization for Euro-DOCSIS operations (ITU J.83 Annex A). At the same time, the Cisco 5x20U improves QAM fidelity due to a state-of-the-art modulator. The Cisco 5x20U also supports J-DOCSIS operation. See Table 3 for a product comparison of the Cisco 5x20U and Cisco 5x20S.
Customers can use the Cisco Technology Migration Plan (TMP) to trade in products and receive credit toward the purchase of new Cisco equipment. For more information about Cisco TMP, go to:
