Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco® Catalyst® Operating System (Catalyst OS) Release 6.x for supervisor engines for Catalyst 5000/5500 and Catalyst 6000/6500 series switches. The last day to order the affected product is Dec. 31, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until Dec. 31, 2010.
Note 1-Summary of Addendum: The Cisco Catalyst 4000/4500 series, Cat OS product numbers were removed from this product bulletin as they appear in a separate product bulletin (Product Bulletin 2990).
Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product. Table 2 lists the software image part numbers affected by this announcement.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS
Customers are encouraged to migrate to either:
• Cisco Catalyst OS Release 7.6 or later, which has general deployment status. To achieve general deployment status, a release must meet rigid stability criteria, which includes defect arrival-rate thresholds and a customer feedback survey. Moving to Catalyst OS Release 7.6 adds a rich feature set-802.3ad, 802.1s, and 802.1 x enhancements; Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMPv3); and support for Layer 4 to Layer 7 service blades, among others. • Cisco Catalyst OS Release 8.4 or later (Catalyst 6500 Series only). The 8.x train is currently under development. Moving to Catalyst OS Release 8.4 or later adds a rich feature set-comprehensive Identity Based Networking Services (IBNS) Enhancements, Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) Snooping, Dynamic Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Inspection, IP Source Guard, Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP), and GARP VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP) among others. Note: Please check the release notes for supported supervisor engines. All supervisor engines are not supported with all releases.
